About Us
|
Pearse Coleman has never been too far removed from his guitar.
He joined the RAN in 1969 as a junior recruit after immigrating from South Africa with his family in 1967. His musical and singing ability came naturally to him and he soon found himself entertaining his shipmates. Pearse recalls, how his father encouraged him to join the services and was instrumental in guiding Pearse’s decision. His father John was a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF and a returned serviceman, and was awarded the MBE after operations in Burma in the second world war. Pearse’s first posting was HMAS Sydney and he found himself sailing the high seas into the Vietnam War and transporting serviceman, stores, trucks and soldiers in support of the war effort in South Vietnam. Many years after that war Pearse wrote the song Vungtau Ferry in a tribute to those early days when returning service men and women were not welcomed home. The song reflected his memories of service on HMAS Sydney during that bitter conflict. |
What We Bring
|
Pearse has performed overseas and done over 1800 performances in in his musical career and is still performing. Pearse has donated 350 copies of his CD ‘Vungtau Ferry’ to the National Vietnam veterans Museum exhibition on Phillip Island. His professional style of singing the Jazz, Country and blues classics playing guitar are memorable performances. |
