About Us
|
Headphones Jones is an 8-piece funk collective based in Melbourne with big horns, driving rhythms and punchy vocals. Known for their high energy sets, the band write original vocal and instrumental music heavily influenced by Cuban, Afrobeat and Latin styles.
The band independently recorded and released their debut single, “Gym Junkie” in 2018 which was launched with an 80’s inspired music video at the Evelyn Hotel. Their four track EP Hectic Zebra was recorded at Pughouse Studios in Thornbury and played on community radio stations around the country. The single was premiered with HappyMag who reported “the instrumentation and execution of “Gym Junkie” is nothing short of musical brilliance.” The band have been playing to packed out venues and festivals across Melbourne since their formation in 2014, including the Eltham Jazz Festival, MOOMBA Festival and the Brunswick Music Festival in 2019. Other career highlights include their 5 Year Birthday Bash at The Night Cat, their sold out album launch for Hectic Zebra at Boney, supporting Canadian artist Alysha Brilla at the Spotted Mallard and supporting afrobeat band Alariiya for their album launch (funded by Multicultural Arts Victoria). “If you like soulful fusion bands like Saskwatch, The Cactus Channel and Cat Empire, you’re sure to fall in love with Headphones Jones.” – Happy Mag “I have a soft spot for explorers of funk. I could drift in this for days.” - Nketchi Anele, JJJ Unearthed “Always good vibes, always a party!” - The B.EAST |
