About Us
|
Infamous roots and reggae troubadours based on Bundjalung lands, East Coast Australia.
Celebrating their first ever vinyl release titled ‘the Children of the Sun’. A collection of rebel songs entwined in Caribbean grooves, mixed by Lord Tanuki himself (Paulie B) at Yama Nui studios. The album has already made it to no.7 on the AIR charts and has been played across more than 100+ radio stations in Australia, NZ and Europe. Featuring an all star Shakedown lineup including the powerhouse rhythm section of Hugh Jones and Tom Kelly, with multi instrumentalists Chelsea McNelliey and Elena Marcigot playing saxophones, clarinet, melodica and backing voices, live-analogue dubs by Marky Power, keys/organ by Staf Ivory and songsmith Jesse Morris on guitars and voice. Powerful messages, solid grooves and four part harmonies. Honouring the legacy and sounds of Caribbean roots music. Celebrating community & culture. Jesse Morris and the Shakedown will be touring across the country throughout 2022 on their postponed ‘the Children of the Sun’ tour. |
What We Bring
|
All 6 of our members come to every festival and event with humble intentions to integrate with the crew, meet local community, sit at elders camp, learn to aknowledge the local country appropriately and to make people dance, shake and smile.
We also love the opportunity that festivals always bring to connect with other artists, jam in the wee hours and to witness the next wave of song and story makers.... We have a following, but mostly we have a family of festival folk who we love connecting with on beautiful lands across the country. Crews of volunteers, coffee makers, artisans, cloth traders and pupeteers. We love festival/market culture. |

Songwriting Workshop
All ages. we demonstrate our methodology of crafting a song. Weaving melody into Caribbean rhythms. Using your voice like a trumpet to find the motifs and hooks. Usually delivered as a duo or trio and starts with a short performance and finishes in a song circle.
Reggae Rhythms Workshop
Learning the theory and mechanics behind the rhythms of the Caribbean so you can let go and fully submerge yourselve into the rhythmic tapestry of reggae music. Understanding the main reggae rhythms with a focus on - One drop, Steppa's, Dancehall and Rockers. What is the skank? What is the bubble? What should the drummer play? What should the percussionist play? Where does the guitar skank fit? How does bass bring it all together? Horn lines and melodies. Delivered with 3-5 members of the band. Fun and informative - open to all ages but more suited to 12+ as it is somewhat therory driven.
