About Us
|
Pirra are a four-piece band from Sydney, made up of Jess Beck, James McKendry and twin brothers Curtis and Jeffrey Argent. Their main instrumentation is vocals, guitar, bass and drums, although they also incorporate synthesizers and electronics. They released their self-produced debut album ͚Animal Kingdom͛ in 2017. The album received play on Triple j, Double J, ABC and various community radio stations. They have since toured extensively, supporting artists such as Mama Kin Spender, Bec Sandridge , Rackett and ELKI. The band members all grew up in rural areas, before moving to Sydney. Shortly after first meeting in 2008, they played together in various projects before eventually creating Pirra. The band is fronted by Jess Beck, whom is a solo artist in her own right and was a 2017 PDA recipient. ͚Pirra͛ means moon in Luritja, the name acknowledges Jess͛ Luritja heritage, and was suggested by Sammy Butcher (Warumpi Band, Tjupi Band). Pirra͛s latest release is the 5 track EP ͚Rabbit Hole͛, for which they worked with producer Nathan Sheehy (Dune Rats, Birds of Tokyo).

"An epic of rural Australia, Get On Board, meanders, swells and peaks painting a picture of the seas of land outside our cities. Vocalist Jess Beck is warm yet distinct wrapped up in instrumentation that echoes her warmth."
