About Us
|
Once upon a time, not so long ago, there was a gathering deep in the forests of Witchcliffe. A gathering of traveling gypsies from lands afar who brought with them a saxophone, a clarinet and a guitar. Together they formed a caravan and began to play sweet melodies for the soothing of souls before realizing that they had created magic.
As their magic grew and matured they began to talk amongst themselves, questioning the worrisome ways of the world and the remedies required for reinvigoration. The caravan now had a mission, a mission to spread the magic of music and to share with the world what they had discovered. They moved north towards the lands of Perth and unpacked their caravan in the coastal paradise of Fremantle. One day as they were preparing, their magic captivated a wandering local who became spellbound with the sounds of the gypsies and their mission. Now with the rhythms of bass, their magic had become deep and more powerful. As time passed the caravan acquired more missionaries who were invited from distant lands and who had traversed the seven seas. Two gypsies with guitar and accordion brought their magic to combine with that of the group's, their power growing ever more. While returning momentarily to the forests of Witchcliffe, the caravan came upon a circus. They played with the show and celebrated with the spectators when out from the crowds appeared a dancing goddess, adept in the art of performance. With a flick of her fans, the groups attire had transformed into shining garments from exotic lands. The goddess wanted only one thing in return, to join the caravan on their mission. News of the caravan spread quickly as they began to play their magic for crowds of thousands of fellow humans. At one such gathering, from deep within the flames of a burning swan, appeared a man with a violin. A veteran traveller with tales of foreign lands from around the world, who decided to return with the caravan to Fremantle to share their purpose. The veteran traveller brought with him two friends. One, a master of rhythms capable of blowing away crowds with a single breath of his didgeridoo. The other a witch, who turned the wheels of sound and amplified their music with fierce electricity. The three had now become ten, and together they call themselves... The Witchy Djypsies. |
What We Bring
|
We are a fun, upbeat, family friendly band playing gypsy swing music that originates from eastern europe!
We've created a narrative for the band and using that, we put on a magical show that's more than just music! We are so confident that we'll make people dance that if no one does we play for free! Our first ticketed show sold out within 30 minutes of the doors opening at the Fibonacci centre in Fremantle WA. This year we busked at Nannup and Fairbridge Festival and were frequently told that we stole the show. Give us a stage and we will enchant everyone! |
